About Group Workcamps Foundation
“It’s All About Spiritual Growth”
HOW IT ALL STARTED
It began with a horrible flood. More than 12 inches of rain fell in three hours near Loveland,
Colorado, in July of 1977. The Big Thompson River raged, destroyed houses, washed away roads and killed over 140 people, some who were never found.
In response, the staff of Group Magazine asked church youth groups to come and help rebuild homes and lives. Over 300 youth and leaders served the residents of the canyon—but it was the spiritual growth—the boost in faith of the campers that made the biggest impact. From this tragedy, a program was created that not only saves thousand of people directly each summer, but also brings a new understanding and a deeper faith to young people.
Now, Group Workcamps Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c) organization, has helped over 185,000 students and adult leaders to stretch their faith, completing more than 31,000 service projects around the United States and abroad.
PURPOSE
We serve churches by providing mission-trip experiences, helping children, youth and adults to grow spiritually.
Nothing ignites spiritual growth like putting faith into action. The results are amazing as students get away from their home and travel to a community with a desire to serve. As students serve people in need, they grow in faith and character—and have a lot of fun at the same time!
Here at Group Workcamps Foundation, youth experience a mission of service and love where the “service” is secondary to “spiritual growth.” The #1 goal of The Group Workcamps Foundation is to provide an opportunity for nurturing faith in the hearts of young people. The by-product is great service for people in need.
STATEMENT OF FAITH
We believe the Bible is the inspired, authoritative Word of God. We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, in his virgin birth, in his sinless life, in his death on the cross, in his bodily resurrection, in his ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in his personal return. We believe people receive forgiveness of sins and eternal life through a relationship with Jesus.
