Lakes & Prairies Community Action Partnership believes that everyone has a right to a simple, decent, affordable place to live in dignity and safety.  Family and Community Services staff work to match individuals and families with available program funds, donated resources, and provide referral assistance to maintain or achieve housing security.

Families, at times are in need of special assistance to maintain housing.  Situations that can lead to utility shut-off, eviction and homelessness threaten family security.

How People are Helped

  • Homeless Prevention and Assistance Providing financial assistance through our Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program for rent, deposits and utilities for eligible families in Clay and Wilkin Counties that are in financial crisis.
  • Transitional Housing Services provides supportive services to homeless families/individuals that meet the eligibility criteria, have a strong desire to break the cycle of homelessness and are willing to work on specific goals. Support is provided for up to 24 months.
  • Permanent Supportive Housing Provides supportive services and rental assistance to single individuals that have a disability, have been homeless for 1 year or more, or more than 5 times in the past 3 years.

Family and Community Services staff members are on the front lines of helping those who are falling through the cracks of our system. Our first focus is on helping families address their immediate crisis situation by providing assistance for shelter, rent, mortgage payments, security deposits, or utilities.

A Self Sufficiency Advocate then works with families to develop a plan that works to build long-term stability, connecting them with other resources – both Lakes & Prairies and community resources.
