Hunger continues to be a growing and too often invisible problem in our communities. The impact of hunger is far reaching for families and especially troubling for children and senior citizens. No one agency can do all that is needed. The gifts of those in a position to help, volunteers, community partnerships, and continuing and expanding access to existing federal and state assistance programs are all important actions to end hunger.
Nutritional Assistance Program for Seniors To qualify for this program, participants must be at least 60 years old, meet income eligibility requirements (135% of poverty or less). Clay County residents are served by the Lakes & Prairies Clay County Seniors program. In Wilkin County, this program is operated by Wilkin County Public Health.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program SNAP Application & Referral Assistance SNAP is the name Minnesota calls the USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Formerly it was called the Food Stamp program. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program leverages your financial resources, contributes to sound nutrition, and can be part of a plan for your financial security. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program is a step toward nutrition and self-sufficiency. With Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, individuals and families, and seniors (different qualification guidelines) can improve nutrition and save money that can be spent on other needs.
FM Emergency Food Pantry For residents of Clay County, Lakes & Prairies Community Action provides the referral. For referral assistance call 218-512-1500
Lakes & Prairies Family and Community Services staff will assist you in determining the food and nutrition support service that you may be eligible for. Staff members are also available to speak to community organizations and helping agencies to expand awareness of these services.
