FAMILIES IN TRANSITION

Lakes & Prairies Community Action Partnership believes that everyone has a right to a simple, decent, affordable place to live in dignity and safety. Family and Community Services staff work to match individuals and families with available program funds, donated resources, and provide referral assistance to maintain or achieve housing security.

Families, at times are in need of special assistance to maintain housing. Situations that can lead to utility shut-off, eviction and homelessness threaten family security.

How People are Helped

• Homeless Prevention and Assistance Providing financial assistance through our Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program for rent, deposits and utilities for eligible families in Clay and Wilkin Counties that are in financial crisis.
• Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP)
  Assisting households at-risk of homelessness and those meeting the HUD definition of homelessness with services and assistance to acquire stable housing.
• Transitional Housing Services provides supportive services to homeless families/individuals that meet the eligibility criteria, have a strong desire to break the cycle of homelessness and are willing to work on specific goals. 
• Foreclosure Prevention and Assistance Buying your home was one of the biggest investments you ever made. Now due to an event beyond your control, an interest rate reset, poor financial management, or other reasons, you could lose your home.
• FAIM Family Assets for Independence in Minnesota (FAIM) A matched savings program helping families purchase their first home. The program includes savings, financial literacy, and home stretch workshop components.

Family and Community Services staff members are on the front lines of helping those who are falling through the cracks of our system. Our first focus is on helping families address their immediate crisis situation by providing one-time assistance for shelter, rent, mortgage payments, security deposits, or utilities.

A Family Services Specialist then works with families to develop a plan that works to build long-term stability, connecting them with other resources – both Lakes & Prairies and community resources.
