Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites
The VITA Program offers free tax help to low-to moderate-income (generally
$40,000 or less for families and $30,000 or less for individuals. Certified volunteers sponsored by various organizations receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. VITA sites are generally located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient locations. Most locations also offer free electronic filing.

AARP Tax Aide Program
The AARP Tax-Aide Program provides free tax preparation and assistance services to millions of low-and middle-income taxpayers, with special attention to those ages 60 and older. Additionally some larger AARP sites provide services for individuals and families, providing there is space available. Electronic filing and online counseling are also offered by the program.
Free File Online
The Free File program is a federal tax preparation and electronic filing program for eligible taxpayers with an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $54,000 or less in 2006 to e-file their federal tax returns for free.
